How to Make a Yarn-Wrapped Hearts Garland Tutorial

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: 30 minutes
Age range: 8 and up

Things you’ll need:
Heart cookie cutter
Pencil
Jute twine
Scrap cardboard
Yarn
Scissors
Craft knife (optional)
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Tapestry needle

Things to do:
1. Place the cookie cutter on your scrap cardboard, then use a pencil to trace the heart outline.

2. Using a craft knife or scissors, cut out the cardboard heart. Repeat steps 1-2 until you have the number of hearts you’d like for your garland.

3. Begin wrapping the yarn around the heart, wrapping over the yarn tail to secure it.

4. Continue wrapping in different directions to cover the entire piece of cardboard.

5. Once you have wrapped the entire heart, trim the yarn with scissors. Tuck the yarn end into the last few wraps.

6. Add a dot of hot glue to the yarn end to secure it.

7. Repeat steps 3-6 until you have created the number of hearts you’d like for your garland.

8. Cut a length of twine that’s the length you’d like for your garland.

9. Thread the twine through a blunt tapestry needle.

10. Insert the tapestry needle through a few of the wraps on the back of one heart (where you glued the yarn tail in place).

11. Continue to thread the tapestry needle along the back of each heart until all the hearts are strung on the twine.

12. Shift the hearts around on the twine so that they are all spaced evenly. Hang your garland on the wall.
