Paper Boxes — Mini Tree Advent Calendar Project

Oddly shaped or larger ornaments that don’t fit into the smaller wooden boxes still need to be wrapped! Make these easily opened, easily reclosed paper boxes from heavy weight scrapbook paper or light cardstock and resize the template as needed to fit your ornaments.

Things you’ll need:
Light cardstock or heavy scrapbook paper
Template
Glue (hot glue make it easier but isn’t necessary)
Scissors
Pencil or pen
Thin ribbon

Things to do:
1. Cut out and trace the template onto your paper. Cut out as many boxes as you need to make for your ornaments.

2. Fold in all the flaps and crease along all the lines.
3. Apply a thin bead of glue onto the flaps and then attach them to the edges to create a box. Fold down the excess on the top flap and tuck it into the box.
4. Cut a length of ribbon long enough to go around the box and tie at the top. Glue it to the bottom and up the sides with a thin bead of glue. Tie into a bow at the top.

Glitter Penguin Ornament

Who can resist a cute little penguin, especially if he’s a glittery penguin! This project utilizes a teardrop shaped acrylic ornament and Mod Podge to create a penguin that your kids (and you!) will love!

Things you’ll need:
Teardrop Acrylic ornament
Black and white glitter
Mod Podge
Orange acrylic paint
Black acrylic paint
Paintbrushes

Things to do:
1. Mix equal parts black glitter and Mod Podge to create a brush-able paste. Paint the entire surface of one of the halves of the ornament. On the other half, paint all but a tear-shaped section in the center of the ornament with the same black glitter mix. Allow the glitter/glue combination to dry.

2. In the same fashion as you did the black glitter, mix the white glitter and Mod Podge. In the unpainted space, paint the belly of the penguin with the white mix.
3. Once the white glitter is dry, paint on a small beak and eyes using the craft paint. Add a ribbon for hanging.
