Chubby Felt Gnome


We love gnomes in our house. In fact we have a resident gnome named Gordon who pops up in a new spot every day to see what we’re up to. And really, the more gnomes the merrier, which is why I love this quick little craft. This sweet little gnome would love to come and live on your bookshelf, dollhouse or fairy house. Constructed from felt and a wooden bead, he’s simple as pie to make (no sewing required!).

Difficulty level: Beginner, but uses hot glue so parental supervision is a good idea
Time required: 10 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Felt squares in two colors
Poly bean bag fill
Wooden bead
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Things to do:
1. Using a bowl or a plate, trace a circle on the felt and cut it out. You want the resulting ball” that you make out of the circle to be about three times the size of the bead.

2. Place a few poly pellets in the center of the circle and then pull the edges up, fill with more pellets. Glue to create a bean bag bottom. You can also sew a running stitch around the edge and draw it together.
3. Hot glue the bead onto the top for the head.

4. Cut a wedge shape from the other color of felt and fit it to the bead to create a cone shaped hat. Trim as necessary and run a bead of glue along one edge to close the cone and attach it to the head with a small amount of glue.

5. Add a face, or not, to finish your gnome.

Craft Foam Flip Flops


My whole family spends the summer in flip flops. Every day, everywhere, we’re just flip flop kind of people. So this project is perfect for us, and it totally delights my kids. In fact, it’s a good thing we have so many pairs lying around because one set like this is definitely not enough. There are too many possibilities for messages or shapes after all and I bet your kids (or you!) will love it too. So pull out the flip flops and the craft foam and get ready.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time to complete: 15 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Craft foam shapes or sheets and scissors to cut out shapes
Craft foam glue
Flip Flops

Things to do:
1. Turn your flip flops over so the bottom is up and the arches are facing in toward each other.

2. Arrange your shapes or letters backwards and upside down on the flip flops until you have the design, pattern or words you want.
3. Glue the shapes or letters down onto the foam of the sole and allow the glue to dry completely before shifting.
4. Slip them on and head out to the beach!
