These custom cake toppers are a wonderful way to add a festive touch to any birthday cake. Make any combination of letters and numbers and use them to dress up the dessert bar at your next birthday party.

Time to complete: 15 Minutes
Age range: 10 and Up *Must be old enough to use a hot glue gun
Difficulty level: Beginner

Things you’ll need:
Ruler
Wax Paper
Dowel rods
Hot Glue Gun
Tacky Glue
Confetti
Scissors
Pencil

Things to do:
1. The first step is drawing a pattern for your cake topper. Simply draw a shape, letter, or number onto a piece of wax paper. You can use a stencil, or free hand it. I’ve chosen to draw a number.

2. Once you’ve created a pattern, simply fill it in with hot glue from your glue gun. Be sure to move quickly, so it doesn’t have time to dry.

3. Once you’ve covered the shape in glue, apply confetti to the pattern. You can use paper or plastic confetti. I like the plastic confetti, because it sparkles and looks great on top of a birthday cake with candles. Cover all of the glued area evenly.

4. Allow the glue and confetti to dry before flipping over the shape and repeating steps 2 and 3.
5. Once the shape is completely dry, cut it out using scissors or rip along the glue line until all of the wax paper is gone.

6. The final step is applying the skewer to the number. Use hot glue and attach the wooden skewer to the shape. Once it has dried, use tacky glue and cover the base of the skewer with confetti.
