DIY Beaded Star Headband Tutorial

Give your headband a little twinkle with these shiny stars.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: 30 minutes
Age range: 12 and up

Things you’ll need:
Scissors
Hunter Green Satin Wired Ribbon
Silver Flat Back Star Rhinestones
Black Plastic Headband
Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Things to do:
1. Using the glue gun, add a strip of hot glue to the headband on one end that’s about as long as the width of the ribbon.

2. Place the edge of the ribbon over the strip of glue, pressing it firmly to the headband.

3. Begin wrapping the ribbon around the headband diagonally as evenly as possible, smoothing out the ribbon as you work.

4. After you’ve wrapped a few inches of the headband, add a dab of glue to secure the ribbon. Continue wrapping, covering up the glue. Continue adding a dab of glue every couple of inches to secure the ribbon.

5. When you reach the opposite end of the headband and have only an inch or so left, add another long strip of glue to the headband about the same length as the ribbon’s width.

6. Wrap the ribbon around the long strip of glue, this time wrapping the ribbon straight over the headband rather than diagonally.

7. With the scissors, cut the ribbon, leaving a length about twice as long as the width of the headband.

8. Fold the cut edge of the ribbon over, doubling it. No need to glue here; the wire in the ribbon will help in stay in place.

9. Add another strip of glue to the headband that’s about the same width as the ribbon. Fold the ribbon over onto the strip of glue to secure it.

10. Grab a handful of flat-backed stars. One at a time, place a small dab of glue on the star. Try to use as little glue as possible.

11. Begin gluing stars one at a time to the headband. Place the stars in any arrangement you’d like. Tip: If you find you can’t easily add glue to the small star, you can add the glue to the headband first, then place the star into the glue.

12. Sometimes hot glue guns can leave a stringy mess afterwards, so if this is the case for you, remove the stringy pieces after the glue is set.
