Upcycling: Revamped Utensils

Revamped_Utensils
I love puttering in junk shops and flea markets, finding various odds and ends that I can’t live without. And one of the things I’m always finding is great, but mismatched, silverware. This technique is a great way to make unmatched silver a little more of a set.

Things you’ll need:
Silverware or serving pieces
Spray paint or oil based enamel paint
Painter’s tape
Wire
Newsprint

Things to do:
1. Clean the silverware well and dry carefully. You want to avoid any fingerprints, oils or water on the handles.

2. Tape off the top of each piece, creating a straight line at the top of the handle.

3. Spray or dip the handle with the paint, coating the exposed silver with paint. Repeat until well coated but not thick.

4. Wrap the top of the piece with wire and hang over the newsprint to dry.

Paper Wrap Bowls

Paper_Wrap_Bowls
I love containers. I’m always in need of something to put something in. Paperclips, paintbrushes, buttons, pencils. It’s the crafter thing, there are always things that need containing. So I’m absolutely in love with these little paper bowls. Quick to make with whatever paper you have on hand, you can scale this up or down to create different sized bowls.

Things you’ll need:
Heavy Cardstock, cut into perfect squares
Scissors
Template
Thread and needle
Buttons, 4 per bowl

Things to do:
1. Using the template, cut out one shape per bowl.

2. Curl the pointier end in to overlap the less pointy side of each cutout corner.
3. Stitch a button to hold the flaps in place at each corner.
4. Presto, a bowl!
