DIY Watercolor Pages

DIY_Watercolor_Pages
My daughter has recently become a huge watercolor fan and she is almost always up for a painting session. Instead of pulling out the watercolors each time (and having to wash them out after each session due to all of her mixing) I’ve decided that watercolor pages are the way to go. Especially now that I’ve figured out how to make my own. If you have a little painter in your house, this is a great summertime staple. Easy to take along on a trip to a museum or a park, all you need is a brush and a little water and you are ready to go!

Things you’ll need:
Liquid Watercolors
Watercolor paper

Things to do:
1. Uncap one color of paint and work a small amount out onto one edge of the paper, spreading it with the mouth of the tube so that you have a thin layer of paint on the paper.

2. Repeat with more colors, working down the edge of the paper and leaving about an inch between colors.

3. Allow the paint to dry fully before using as you would any paint with water page.

Felted Soap

Felted_Soap
Felted soap is both a beautiful and useful way to transform an everyday, mundane object. The felted exterior makes an excellent scrubbing surface and allows you to use every bit of the soap, shrinking as the soap inside is used up.

Things you’ll need:
Good quality bar soap
Wool roving, two packages
Warm and cold water
Dish soap

Things to do:
1. Wrap the bar of soap with one of the lengths of roving. Dampen well and add a drop of dish soap.

2. Turn the bar over and over in your hands to start the felting process. Rewetting with warm and then cold water and adding more soap as needed.

3. Once the first layer has felted down a bit, wrap with the second layer and repeat the process until the wool is well felted and the individual fibers have bonded together.
