The acorns are now coming down thick and fast, and it’s hard to resist their beauty and the feeling of fall they bring. This acorn cap frame is a perfect way to display those pumpkin patch and leaf pile photos while showing off the natural beauty of the acorns themselves. Reuse a frame from your stash or look for simple unpainted frames with wide, flat surfaces.
Things you need:
Frame
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Acorn caps, get more than you think you’ll need, just in case!
Spray clear polyurethane (optional)
Things to do:
1. Gather up your acorn caps and brush off any excess dirt. If you want to make sure they are free of all dirt and bugs, give them a quick rinse and then spread them onto a baking sheet and dry them in a low oven for a few minutes.
2. Remove the glass from your frame (if it has any).
3. Dab hot glue into the center of the cap, you’ll need enough so that the glue will come down to the frame, but keeping the glue inside the caps makes a cleaner finished look than glueing on the edges of the cap. Start at one corner and work your way across, using roughly the same size acorns for each row.
4. Continue to attach the caps until the front of the frame is covered. You can add a row of under developed small acorns to the bottom edge and/or a small bunch of acorns to one corner for some extra fun as well!
5. Spray with a thin coat of polyurethane to seal the caps.
