DIY French Shabby Chic Stacking Boxes

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: 2 hours plus paint drying time.
Age range: Adults

Things you will need:
Paper Mache Heart Box Set
Cameo Pink Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint
Granite Gray Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint
‘Cafe Paris’ Americana Stencil
Martha Stewart Flourish Stencil
Lace Adhesive Stencil
Craft Designer Stencil Brush Set
Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner and Restorer

Things to do:
1. Paint selected heart shaped stacking boxes and lids with the Cameo Pink Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint. As they were stacked, I chose to paint every other one. I only used one coat of paint to give a more vintage look to the stacking boxes. Set aside to dry. Then, touched up any missed spots.

2. Paint remaining heart shaped stacking boxes and lids with the Granite Gray Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint. Again, I only used one coat of paint and touched up any missed spots once dry. Set aside to dry thoroughly.

3. Once the gray paint is dried completely, tape the ‘Cafe Paris’ Americana Stencil to the largest lid of the stacking boxes.

4. Using a stencil brush, dab the stencil brush in the cameo pink paint. Wipe off excess paint before dabbing the stencil. Less paint is better when stenciling, as you do not want it to run underneath the stencil. Dab the entire stencil with the cameo pink paint. Then, remove stencil immediately.

5. Rinse off the stencil, as soon as you are one stenciling. You may use just water, however I find it easier to use the Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner and Restorer and a cotton ball.

6. Continue stencilling the other gray parts of the stacking boxes using the Martha Stewart Flourish Stencil. Rinse stencils, then set items to the side to dry.

7. Stick the Lace Adhesive Stencils into place along the larger heart shaped stacking box. Smooth out sections, especially along the curves of the heart.

8. With a clean and dry stencil brush, dab the stencil brush into the gray paint. Brush off excess paint, then dab each stencil. With the stick on stencils you are able to get more small details out of a stencil.

9. Gently and slowly pull off the stick-on lace stencils. Then, clean the stencils immediately.

10. Continue stencilling the other pink parts of the stacking boxes using the Martha Stewart Flourish Stencil. Rinse stencils, then set items to the side to dry.

11. Place lids back onto each heart shaped stacking box.
