Paracord Techniques: How to do a Tomahawk Knot

This moderately challenging knot looks great with thicker cord and makes a durable, sturdy fabric great for dog collars, leashes and belts as well as bracelets and fobs. It’s a two color knot that sets off the different shades dramatically.

Difficulty level: Moderate
Time required: 20 minutes

Things you need:
Goldenrod and purple parachute cord – orother colors of your choice

Things to do:
1. Cut two lengths of cord and lay them side by side. Here the main color is yellow and the contrast color is purple.

2. With the main color on top, form a loop with the main color by bringing the right leg over the left. Loop the (new) right leg under the contrast color and back up again.

3. Pull the main color up to form a bend and push it through the loop you just made.

4. Pull the main color legs to tighten forming a loop of the main color with the contrasting color running through the knot.

5. Flip the whole thing over so that the loop is pointing down and the four legs are splayed out with the colors alternating.

6. With the left hand main color leg form a bend. With the right hand main color leg, make a loop with the top leg crossing the bottom.

7. Feed the bend into the loop.

8. Tighten the loop around the bend.

9. Pull the front facing contrasting leg up and over the knot.

10. Draw the back facing contrasting leg up and over the knot.

11. With the right hand main color leg, form a bend and feed it into the main color loop.

12. Pull the main color loop to tighten, securing the bend and the two contrasting colors

13. Flip the work so you are looking at the back side.

14. Draw the front facing contrasting color up and over the knot and the back facing contrasting color up and over the knot.

15. With the right hand main color leg, form a bend and feed it into the main color loop.

16. Pull the main color loop to tighten, securing the bend and the two contrasting colors.

17. Flip and continue the process until you have reached the desired length.
