Having trouble finding the perfect timepiece to suit your space? Why not create your own? With a few basic supplies and a little creativity, making your own time-telling masterpiece is a cinch!

Things you need:
Unfinished Wooden Plaque
Long Stem or Short Stem Clock Kit
Matte Finish Mod Podge
Power Drill with Bit
Ruler
Scissors
Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush and Accessories
Printed paper (vintage wallpaper, shelf paper, or gift wrap, for example)

Things to do:
1. Use the ruler to find the plaque’s center and mark with an X. Then, drill a hole through the center of the X. (Tip: Place a piece of scrap wood behind the plaque while drilling to protect the surface beneath.)
2. Paint the plaque in a coordinating color to your patterned paper, and allow to thoroughly dry. For an especially striking look, paint each layer of relief in a different color.
3. Cut a piece of printed paper slightly larger than the plaque. Then, make a pattern by using your fingers to press the paper into and around the grooves. After the plaque’s shape is transferred to the paper, use scissors to cut it out.
4. Apply a layer of Mod Podge and affix the paper cutout to the plaque. Then, apply a layer of Mod Podge to the paper’s surface and allow to thoroughly dry.
5. Use the tip of your scissors to poke through the paper, revealing the hole beneath, and then insert the clock kit according to the directions.

When making your custom clock, be sure to choose a kit with a shaft that’s longer than the thickness of the plaque and has hand lengths that will accommodate the plaque’s width. Kids will love designing their own wall clock. Who knows, maybe having their own customized timepiece will even help keep them on schedule!
