DIY Washi Bunting Paper Lantern

With warm weather right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about all the fun decorating things we can be doing outside! One of my favorite ways to spruce up an outdoor area is to add paper lanterns. Inexpensive and lightweight, they can be hung almost anywhere and are a great blank slate for all kinds of projects. Here we’ve added color and spunk with a washi tape and scrapbook paper bunting wrapping around the lantern.

Difficulty level: Moderate
Time required: 20 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Scrapbook paper
Paper lantern
Washi Tape
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil

Things to do:
1. Measure out two-inch sections on the backside of the paper and draw them in with the pencil. Divide the strips into triangles.

2. Cut out the individual triangles with your scissors.

3. With the tape sticky side out, wrap it around the lantern to measure the diameter of the sphere.

4. Lay the tape sticky side up on a flat surface.
5. Along the edge of the tape, place the edge of the triangles, end to end, with the patterned paper side down.

6. Once you have triangles all the way down the tape, gently pick it up and wrap it around the lantern, overlapping the ends of the tape where they meet.

7. Gently press the tap down along it’s length to secure.
8. If desired, repeat with another strip of tape at a different angle.
