Upcycling: Cute and Simple Magnetic Containers

Simple_Magnetic_Containers
In my house, we use our magnetic surfaces as much as possible. They are handy, fun, great for organizing and perfect for displaying kiddo art. But I can never seem to keep a pen around those surfaces for taking down notes. Notepads with magnets? Easy to find. Pens with magnets (that work) not so much. Enter the humble mint tin and now I’m set!

Things you’ll need:
Strong magnet blanks
Vertical opening mint tins
Spray paint (optional)
Super Glue

Things to do:
1. If you don’t like the exterior of your tin, coat with a few layers of spray paint in a well ventilated and well covered work space until the original emblems are hidden.
2. Spread a generous amount of superglue in at the center top of the tin and immediately press the magnet into place.

3. Allow the glue to dry before filling with your favorite pens and snapping it in place!

DIY Portable Tic-Tac-Toe

Portable_Tic_Tac_Toe
I live in the city. Which means that I spend a lot of time on public transit, with my kids, trying to keep them busy and out of everyone’s way. So having a few treasures in my bag at all times is a must. Pens, stickers, pencils, small notepads, and now, a wee little game of tic-tac-toe, just the right size for slipping in a pocket or purse.

Things you’ll need:
Mint tin
Cardstock
Mod Podge
Buttons
Adhesive magnet sheet
Scissors
Pencil
Marker

Things to do:
1. Press the button onto the adhesive side of the magnet sheeting pushing firmly to make sure they are well stuck.

2. Trace around the top of your tin on the cardstock and cut just inside the line. Test to see if it will fit into the lid and trim as needed.
3. Draw a Tic-Tac-Toe board onto the cardstock. Once the ink is dry, attach to the inside of the lid with a thin coat of Modge Podge. Top with two more coats to seal, allowing each to dry before adding the next.

4. Using the scissors, cut out the buttons so that they are backed completely with the magnetic sheeting and play away.
