Organza T-shirt Embellishments

Ready to take a plain-old-plain-old t-shirt and turn it into something pretty and party ready? Organza can be used to create ethereal flowers and leaves that, when stitched to a plain t-shirt, can turn something ordinary into something extraordinary.

When using a lighter or match to curl the edges of your flowers, bring the edge of the fabric almost, but not quite in contact with the flame. Hold the fabric slightly closer for a more dramatic curl in spots to give the flowers depth. And remember; always take appropriate safety precautions when working with fire.

Things you need:
Organza Spools (colors of your choice), 1/8 yard will decorate two or three t-shirts
Long handled lighter
Fabric scissors
Thread
Beads or small shank buttons

Things you do:
1. Cut four circles of fabric in progressively smaller sizes. Start with a three-inch diameter circle for a large flower and a two-inch circle for smaller ones.
2. Holding the lighter straight up, run the edges lightly past the flame. This will melt the edges to keep them from fraying and will curl the fabric for a more flower like look.
3. Stack the circles smallest to biggest and stitch them together at the center point, adding a single bead or small button once the layers have been secured to each other.
4. Repeat the process to make one or two more flowers, varying the size with each. Stitch them near the collar on one shoulder of your t-shirt, grouping the flowers together and slightly overlapping them. You can also make simple leaf shapes using the same process to add in with the flowers.
