DIY Chalkboard Paint Christmas Ornaments

Change your holiday message each week on these adorable chalkboard paint glass ball ornaments. Painting them is simple, and you can personalize them both with the ribbon and with the message you write in chalk!

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 2-3 hours (includes drying time)
Age range: 8+

Things you’ll need:
Glass ball ornaments
Chalkboard paint
Paint brush
Scissors
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Red ribbon *Optional

Things to do:
1. Remove the top from the glass ornament and set aside.

2. Paint the first coat of chalkboard paint onto the ornament.

3. You’ll need to let this dry and then paint another coat or two more, allowing each coat to dry before adding the next.

4. Balance the glass ball on top of a pencil (inserted inside the hole) when drying. This way, no paint will rub off.

5. Once the glass ornament is dry, you can either leave it as is and write a message on it, or cover the top with a bit of ribbon!

Chalkboard Paint Magnets

Chalkboard_Paint_Magnets
Like most moms, I display my kid’s latest and greatest artwork on my fridge. And since my kids are still young, we have plenty of artwork. LOTS of artwork. After a while it gets a little muddled up, making it hard to separate it out into their separate things-to-save boxes. Until now. Turning some flat magnets into chalkboard magnets means that I can keep track of who’s are is who’s and they can see their name displayed proudly over their work. Win win.

Things you’ll need:
Flat metal magnets
Fine grit sand paper
Painter’s tape
Chalkboard paint
Foam brush

Things to do:
1. Tape off a section of the magnet large enough to write a name or initial on.

2. Lightly sand the exposed area, being careful not to rip the tape. This will help the paint adhere
3. Paint three coats of chalkboard paint, allowing each to dry before adding the next. Remove the tape carefully (you may need to run a craft knife along the edge of the tape)

4. Let the paint cure for at least a week before using.
