As rice is practiced to grant wishes of fertility and prosperity, tossing rice is a traditional way to wish such goodwill to newlyweds. An interesting cultural belief of wedding rice is that when one threw this rice, it would feed any evil spirits who happened to be present at the ceremony. Because it is presupposed that satisfied spirits would not be tempted to inflict the celebrated couple.
And this isn't just any rice; it is little heart-shaped rice! Could this wedding accent be any lovelier? These many little hearts are formed from natural rice. It is flat and will not roll when stepped on, and it is biodegradable, so it will wash away with the next rain! This isn't messy like bubbles, and it won't grow weeds like birdseed. It is also safe for birds! Fun fact: Initially, as far back as the time of the Ancient Romans, wheat was also thrown, as well as other grains, in the same respect, over the bride and groom. And in this theme, this wheat was translated into cakes and not so appealingly crumbled over the bride's head. This was put to an end thanks to Queen Elizabeth I. This is why we now eat our wedding cake; not throw it, and it is why rice has become a cleaner, easier prop for this ritual. Enough rice for 100 one tablespoon favors. Scoop is not included. 100% Eco-friendly and biodegradable. Though it is non-toxic, it is not intended for human consumption.
