Wooden Spool Snowmen

Although I live in a part of the world where there is plenty of snow for snowmen outside all winter long, I know that there are many of you out there who long for the white stuff and a cheery snowman to greet you when you arrive home each day. Even with all the snow at my house, we still love to have a few indoor snowmen to keep us company and this spool snowman is just the ticket, appealing to my crafty side and my kids playfulness.

Difficulty level: Easy (great kid craft!)
Time required: 5 minutes plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
3 wooden spools
teeny black buttons in two sizes
Craft glue or hot glue gun/glue sticks
Miniature top hat
Scrap of fleece or felt
White paint and paintbrush
Orange marker
Scissors

Things to do:
1. On a covered work surface, paint the three spools all over with white paint. You’ll need two coats and should allow each layer of paint to dry thoroughly before adding the next.

2. Once the spools are dry, glue them together in a tower using your craft or hot glue.
3. Glue the top hat onto the top of the stack of spools and add eyes and buttons with the larger buttons and a smile with the smaller ones.
4. Cut a length of fleece or felt to make a scarf and tie it around the neck of your snowman.
5. Draw in a carrot nose to finish.
