Sprouting Grain Eggs

Sprouting_Grain_Eggs
Nothing says spring like freshly sprouted plants. And Eggs. So why not combine them for the perfect mini dose of spring in your window. Empty eggshells are great for starting seedlings of all sorts but quick growing sprouted grains make a fun little window plant (and as a bonus, they are great for indoor cats to munch on!) Just be careful to crack your eggs near the top of the shell so that you have plenty of depth for the seedlings to grow.

Things you’ll need:
Empty eggshells
Potting soil
Soaked grains or pulses such as wheat, oats or even lentils (this will help them sprout!)
Eggcup

Things to do:
1. Crack your eggs near the top and empty them out. Rinse the insides thoroughly with warm water and allow them to dry.

2. Fill the egg with good quality potting soil about half way up.

3. Sprinkle in a layer of seeds and moisten the whole thing well.
4. Cover the egg with a small piece of plastic wrap and set out of direct sunlight for a few days to speed up germination.
5. Once the sprouts are showing their tops, move to a sunny windowsill and enjoy them as they grow!
