How to Make a Spiral Mesh Wreath

While traditional mesh wreaths are pretty darn awesome, sometimes you want something with just a little more zing for your door. Enter the spiral wreath. This is no timid decoration! The technique creates a wild, oversized wreath that will add definite pizzazz to your front door decor!

Difficulty level: Moderate
Time required: 1 hour

Things you’ll need:
24 inch wide royal blue mesh or other colors of your choice
10 inch wide red mesh or other colors of your choice
Red pipe cleaners
Wreath form
Scissors
Embellishments – Americana barn star and burlap star picks

Things to do:
1. Cut a two foot section of the wider mesh and roll it tightly up.

2. Using a pipe cleaner, twist in the center of the roll to hold it in place, leave the tails free.

3. Cut three one foot sections of the narrower mesh and roll each tightly. Using a pipe cleaner, twist the ends of the three rolls together.

4. Repeat steps 1-3 until you have between 10 and 15 of each color.
5. Take the tails of the pipe cleaners from one of the long rolls and twist it to the outer two rings of the wreath, tightening on the back side.

6. Push the raw edges of the narrower bunch in through the center rings of the wreath, close to the first set of ties, and twist the pipe cleaners around the center two rings to secure.
7. Now attach another of the longer rolls, using the same technique, to the inner most rings of the form.
8. Continue this process, with the longer rolls on the outer and inner rings and the shorter rolls on the center rings, punching them closely together, until you have made it all the way around the wreath form. Trim any excess pipe cleaners form the backside.

9. Using picks, or other embellishments, add decorations here and there throughout the wreath. Here we have inserted star picks at intervals around the wreath and have wired a large star into the center.
