Simple Gold Pinecones

Pinecones are one of those quintessentially winter items that are perfect for all kids of decorating. Add them to wreaths, flowers arrangements or swags for a touch of woodland whimsy. Mix them in with a bowl of potpourri or add them to your tablescape for instant winter goodness. They are perfect just as they are. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be taken up a notch with a little paint. A few golden pinecones added to the mix of natural ones adds just a hint of glamour, or paint them all for a glitzy, glorious look.

Difficulty level: easy
Time required: 15 minutes plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
Newsprint or other covering for your work surface
Gold craft paint
Pinecones
Paintbrush

Things to do:
1. On a covered work surface, brush away any dirt or debris on your pinecones. Make sure they are dry. If you have collected them from outside, it’s a good idea to bake them in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes to make sure any creepy crawlies are killed off.

2. Brush on thin, even coats of gold paint, allowing for dry time between each layer, until the pinecones are well covered all over.
3. Allow the pinecones to cure overnight before displaying.
