Santa’s Buckle Holiday Ornament

Nothing says Christmas like Santa. He is, of course, the central icon (on the non religious side) of the holiday. After all, who can resist such a jolly old gentleman. Here’s an ornament to add to your tree that uses a little ribbon and a little glitz to recall Santa and liven up your tree. You can, of course, use satin ribbon or curls of red paper to fill your ornament, but raffia really fits the bill nicely, adding texture and color at the same time.

Difficulty level: Easy, but requires the use of a hot glue gun
Time required: 5 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Acrylic fillable ornament
Silver buckles
Black satin ribbon
Red raffia
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Unravel a few feet of raffia and roll gently around your hand. Tuck the roll into the ornament and let it unravel to fill the space. Close the two halves tightly.

2. Thread the black ribbon through the buckle, leaving a few inches on either side to wrap around. Trim the ends of the ribbon.
3. Apply a bead of hot glue around the back side of the buckle and press onto the center of the ornament. Wrap the ribbon around and apply a little more glue where the two ends meet.
4. Cut a length of raffia and thread it through the opening at the top of the ornament. Tie in a knot and splay out the ends to finish the look.
