Popsicle Stick Photo Puzzles

This is a perfect keepsake gift for grandmas and grandpas who love puzzles! A colored picture, some craft sticks, and Mod Podge will create a great game that can be as easy or difficult as the picture allows!

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 30-45 minutes (allows for drying time)
Age range: 8+

Things you’ll need:
Jumbo craft sticks
Gloss Luster Mod Podge
Foam brush
Finished coloring book picture no wider than the length of the popsicle sticks (Using a coloring book with thicker pages is helpful)
Painter’s tape
Scissors
Craft knife and mat

Things to do:
1. Have the child color the picture with crayons. Cut it out and arrange the craft sticks over the top of it, so you know you’ll be using enough. Tape the sticks together on the back only, with the painter’s tape.

2. Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the back of the colored picture. In this photo, there was another uncolored picture on the back – the front had been colored in crayon as directed in Step 1.

3. Stick it onto the front side of your arranged craft sticks (not on the side with the tape). Allow the project to dry.

4. Apply a coat of the Mod Podge to the front, covering the colored picture and any uncovered parts of the stick, so that the puzzle will have the same luster all over.

5. Once the Mod Podge has dried, use an X-acto knife to cut the sticks apart on the back side. It’s helpful to do this on a self-healing mat, but if you don’t have one, just cut on a surface that won’t be damaged by the knife (or plan to do it over an old magazine).

Mix up the pieces and start solving your new puzzle!
