Paper Doily Fabric Painting

Paper doilies always seem to come in stacks of way too many. And if you have a few left over from the last time you needed one for a cake and had to buy twenty, they can make fantastic stencils for fabric painting.

Things you need:
Fabric (any plain fabric will do)
Fabric paint
Foam brush
Paper doilies

Things to do:
1. Lay your fabric out on a wipable work surface and center the doily on top.
2. Drop a dollop of paint onto the center (solid) part of the doily and dab your brush in.
3. Pin or hold the doily in place with one hand and paint in light sponging motions with the other. Work all the way around the doily pattern.

4. Peel off the paper and allow to dry before using.

5. This also looks great in layers, once one is dry, add a new doily slightly shifted over the printing form the first and repeat the process.

  1. It would be nice if just one of the pics showed the completed project. I love the arsty-half out of frame photos…but when doing a tutorial, function over form perhaps? Please? Would love to see this piece in context to its surroundings! Love the idea, Im a tad doiley obsessed anyway….
