On-the-go Travel Fishing Game Tin

When my children were very small, I was a master at having small games and toys in my bag at all time, things to keep my kiddos busy while waiting in lines, waiting at restaurants or sitting in the back seat of the car. This game would have been a hit with them, just the kind of thing to keep them busy wherever it was we were. Look for a tin with an easy to remove lid so that little hands can easily get playing without too much fuss!

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 10 minutes plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
Felt in several colors
Scissors
Small washers
Two disc magnets
Yarn
Craft glue

Things to do:
1. From the felt, cut pairs of small fish shapes, you’ll need two shapes per finished fish.

2. Remove any labels from your tin and, if desired, cut a piece of blue felt to fit into the bottom of the tin.
3. Dab a little bit of glue onto one of the fish in each pair, settling a washer into the center of each and adding a little extra glue to the top of the washer.

4. Press the other fish in the pair onto the first, smoothing it over the glue and sandwiching the glue and magnet in between. Allow the glue to dry.

5. Meanwhile, dab a little glue onto the bottom of the tin and apply the blue felt if using to create the water”
6. Cut a length of yarn about 5 inches long and tie a loose, finger sized loop on one end.

7. Place a dot of glue onto one side of one magnet and press the untied end of the yarn into the glue, place the other magnet over the first, smashing the yarn in between. The magnets will hold together and the glue will keep the yarn in place.

8. To play, place your fish into the tin, hook the yarn loop onto your finger and go fishing!
