Things you’ll need:
Cotton or linen napkins
Scrap cardboard or other work surface covering
Watercolor paints in various colors
Iron
Soft paintbrush
Spray bottle filled with water (optional)
Things to do:
- Iron the napkin to remove any wrinkles.
- Place the ironed napkin on top of the work surface covering to protect the surface from paint.
- Add a small amount of the first color of watercolor paint to a cup, then add water to dilute it. Stir the paint so that it dissolves in the water.
- Using the soft paintbrush, begin adding strokes of paint to the napkin. You can draw a design or just swirl the paintbrush around.
- Continue to add paint until you’re happy with your design.
- Repeat steps 3-5 with a second color of paint.
- If your paint isn’t blending well with the other colors, you can add a squire of water to the napkin to moisten it.
- Repeat steps 3-5 with a third color of paint. If you’d like, you can go back and add more of the other two colors of paint. Continue blending until you are happy with the design.
- To complete the design, we dipped the paintbrush in the darker paint color again, then flicked the paintbrush to create small dabs of color on the napkin.
- Continue painting and blending until you are happy with the final design, then allow the napkin to dry completely.
