How to Make an Easy Felt Ball Ornament

These felt ball ornaments look complex when completed, but they’re easy to make and the repetitive, simple crafting lends itself to working in front of the television or during a long wait. Vary the sizes of circles for different looks of your felt ball ornaments.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 1-2 hours minutes
Age range: 10+

Things you’ll need:
Felt
Styrofoam ball
3/8″ grosgrain ribbon
Sequin pins
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Scissors
Pen or pencil
A circle to trace

Things to do:
1. Trace and cut out 50 or so circles. The number of circles you cut will depend on how large you want them to be. Audition some different sizes to determine the look you want to achieve.

2. Fold one circle in half.

3. Fold it in half again.

4. Place a pin in the triangle at the bottom where the folds meet.

5. Pin the folded circle to the styrofoam ball. The folded circle will tip to one side a little, but this won’t be obvious once you start adding other pieces of felt.

6. Repeat steps 2-4, and add a second folded circle to the ball.

7. As you start adding folded felt circles, you’ll begin to see how they fit together nicely.

8. Once the ball is covered, cut a piece of ribbon to 10″ and form it into a circle.

9. Pin this on the ball, between the pieces of felt. If desired, secure it with a bit of hot glue. Now hang, and enjoy!
