How to Make a Ribbon Tassel Keychain

A ribbon tassel keychain is a great teacher’s gift when created in school colors. You can make this with as many or as few ribbons as you’d like, and with any length of ribbon. If you keep this for yourself, you’ll always smile when you look for your keys!

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 30 minutes
Age range: 10+

Things you’ll need:
Key ring
6mm split ring
Various ribbons, with at least one that’s no wider than 3/8″
Pony beads
Scissors
Seam sealant
Needle and thread

Things to do:
1. Cut your ribbons to 15-18″ long. Slide the split ring to the middle of your narrowest ribbon.

2. Fold the ribbon in half, and slide your pony beads over both cut edges until they meet right over the split ring, as shown.

3. Stack your other ribbons on top of each other and fold in half to find the middle. Thread your needle and take a couple of small stitches in the middle so all the ribbons stay together. Don’t cut the thread yet.

4. Nest this group of ribbons under the narrow ribbon containing the beads. Tie the beaded ribbon around the group of ribbons.

5. After you’ve tied the ribbon, take a couple of stitches in the knot to secure it. Slide the key chain ring onto the split ring, and your keychain is complete!
