Felt Candy Heart Pocket

Felt_Candy_Heart_Pocket
Candy hearts are one of the very first sweets I remember eating and I’ve always loved the slightly chalky sweet texture and flavor of them. I look forward to them every Valentines Day but not the sugar rush that my kids (and I) get after eating them. This year I’m giving a felt version with a secret pocket in the back, just right for slipping in a little love note, and maybe a few candy hearts as well.

Things you need:
Red and/or white felt
Red and white thread
Sewing machine
Pinking shears
Scissors
Craft knife and cutting mat
Cardstock
Pen
Valentine Pink Apple Barrel Paint
Foam Brush

Things to do:
1. Cut out a two identical hearts from your felt (same color) they should be about 5 inches wide and 5 inches tall.
2. On one heart cut a 2- 1/2 inch slit in the center with the pinking shears, this will be the pocket slit.

3. Stitch both hearts together using a contrasting color of thread (i.e., red thread on white felt, white thread on red) leaving about a 1/3-inch seam allowance all around.

4. Trim the edges with pinking shears to even them up and for a cute finish.
5. Using either a craft knife and paper or a die cutting machine, cut a message out of the paper to create a simple stencil.
6. Lay the stencil across the front of the heart and dab with paint lightly.

7. Peel the stencil off and allow the paint to dry before tucking a note and a treat into the back of the heart and leaving it for your sweetheart!

  1. This is really cute and I may use this for a small purse
but wanted to see if you have
any small purses that will go with 12 inch bears.
    Something simple maybe with felt.
    Thanks

    1. Phyllis… Im sorry we don’t carry any purses for 12 inch bears 🙁 But I think you definitely make some with felt! I like the idea!
