Felt and Button Dress-Up Fashion Rings

My little girl loves to dig away in my jewelry box, trying on necklaces and bracelets, and most especially rings. She’s fascinated by them, as I think most kids are, and while she’d love to tote them off to her room for some imaginary play, they’re too special to turn into play things. So instead I’ve been making her, and helping her make, these cute felt and button rings. Perfect for dress up and playtime, these are also great friend gifts or birthday favors!

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 5 minutes

Things you’ll need:
White felt – or other colors of your choice
Buttons or other buttons of your choice
Scissors
Embroidery thread and needle
Measuring tape

Things to do:
1. Let your little one select a stack of two or three buttons for each ring.

2. Cut a strip of felt about 1/3 of an inch wide and three inches long.
3. Wrap the strip around their finger, cut just past the spot where the end overlaps the tail.
4. With your thread and needle, stitch a solid X on the felt where the two ends overlap then sew the stack of buttons on, running the thread through all the layers and in through the layers of felt and then back up again a few times.

5. Tie off on the inside of the ring and trim away excess thread.
