Faux Pearl Beaded Hair Comb Tutorial

This flexible hair comb can highlight any hair style, whether it’s a bun, a twist, or a braid. Go even bolder by mixing in different pearl sizes. If you’d like to make a simpler hair comb, line the beads up straight across the top of the comb instead of staggering them.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: 20 minutes
Age range: 12 and up

Things you’ll need:
Silver Wire Flexible Hair Comb
Mermaid Mix Faux Pearl Beads
Silver Beading Wire
Wire cutters
Jewelry pliers (optional)

Things to do:
1. Wrap the edge of the wire around the hair comb’s end several times between the first two teeth of the comb.

2. Using the wire cutters, cut a 12″ length of wire. (Don’t worry about running out of wire. Shorter lengths of wire are easier to work with, and you can always start a new length.)

3. Slip the first pearl onto the wire.

4. Slide the pearl over to the hair comb just above the wrapped wire.

5. Tightly wrap the wire around the comb twice, this time between the second and third comb teeth.

Tips: You may find that it helps to hold the bead in place with one hand and wrap with the other.
The comb’s teeth are flexible, so if you can’t seem to wiggle the wire between the teeth, you can adjust the teeth to make it easier.
6. Thread the wire with a second pearl. Slide the pearl over to the comb, placing the pearl diagonally and just below the first pearl to create some layers. Wrap the wire around the comb twice to secure the bead.

7. Repeat steps 3-6 to continue adding pearls across the entire comb, layering the pearls as you add them if you’d like.

8. When you run out of wire, simply wrap the last of the wire around the comb near the last pearl you secured. Trim it with wire cutters.

9. Repeat Steps 1-2 to add a new length of wire. Continue adding pearls across the comb.

10. When you reach the end of the comb, wrap the wire between the last two comb teeth several times. Using the wire cutters, cut the wire.

14. Optional: Use jewelry pliers to press the wire edge down. This will stop the wire from poking you.
