DIY Yarn Tapestry Wall Hanging

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: 30 minutes
Age range: 12 and up, with optional adult supervision for hot glue gun

Things you’ll need:
Yarn in any color or weight of your choice
1/8″ wooden dowel rod
Ruler
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks (optional)

Things to do:
1. Cut strands of yarn in the following colors and sizes:
20 strands of 28″-long blue yarn
16 strands of 26″-long pink yarn
16 strands of 24″-long gray yarn
Tip: This is only meant as a guide. If you have more yardage of one yarn, feel free to cut more strands in that color. Use your crafty eye!

2. Grab four strands of blue yarn, then fold them in half lengthwise, forming a loop at the top. Place the looped end under the dowel.

3. Slip the yarn ends through the loop to create the first group of fringe.

4. Pull gently to secure the fringe.

5. Repeat steps 2-3 with four more 4-strand groups of blue.

6. Repeat steps 2-4 with the pink yarn, this time adding a total of four groups of 4 strands each.

7. Repeat steps 2-4 with the gray yarn, this time adding a total of four groups of 4 strands each.

8. To make the hanger, cut 28″-long strands of yarn in the following colors:
2 strands of 28″-long blue yarn
2 strands of 28″-long pink yarn
2 strands of 28″-long gray yarn

9. Holding the 6 strands of yarn together, knot the strands around the dowel.

10. Divide the strands into three sections of 2 strands each, matching the colors. Braid the strands until you have about 4″ of yarn left.

11. Knot the yarn hanger around the opposite end of the dowel.

12. Center the yarn on the dowel as best you can. Using a glue gun, place a dot of glue on the back of each fringe to secure it.

13. Using scissors, trim a diagonal line across the bottom of the strands. Start with the longest strands of yarn, then work your way to the shorter strands.
