Save yourself a trip to the antique store, by creating your own paper mache vintage inspired jack-o-lantern treat bowl. This simple craft will give your Halloween decor a vintage flair without breaking the bank!

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: 30 minutes+
Age range: 10+

Things you’ll need:
Paper mache pumpkin
Paint (orange, black, white)
Paintbrush

Things to do:
1. If using the decoupage pumpkin found here, simply turn your pumpkin upside down, so that it is in the shape of a bowl. Then remove the “stem” by pulling it through the hole.

2. Paint your pumpkin. Pumpkins come in a variety of colors, but we went with a burnt orange color to create a more vintage feel.

3. Paint your face. Vintage paper mache typically had large open mouths with big, spaced out teeth, as well as thin, long triangle shaped noses and dramatic eyebrows. These pumpkins were also hand painted and far from perfect, meaning don’t worry if your pumpkin isn’t perfect! Using a slightly darker shade of orange to create smile lines, and shadow give the pumpkin a more realistic look.

4. This step is optional, but we brushed a VERY light amount of watered down ivory colored paint over the surface of the pumpkin, then used a paper towel to blot the top, to give the appearance of age.
