DIY Stretchy Lace Headband

My little girl has just entered the headband phase so she’s mad for pretty bands to adorn her hair. This lace headband fits the bill perfectly, staying put thanks to the elastic stretch and looking pretty without being uncomfortable, these soft, charming headbands are a snap to make and can be done with all sorts of pretty lace or trim.

Difficulty level: Moderate
Time required: 15 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Lace ribbon
Two rubber bands
Sewing machine and thread
Scissors
Cloth measuring tape
Fabric stiffener (optional)
Iron

Things to do:
1. If you want a stiffer headband, spray a generous length of lace ribbon well with fabric stiffener and allow it to dry thoroughly before proceeding.
2. Measure your head from just behind the earlobe on one side to the same place on the other side. Add 1 1/2 inches to this measurement and cut a piece of ribbon to this dimension.

3. Fold and press a 1/4 inch hem on each end of the lace.
4. Loop a rubber band thorough one end of the lace and fold up 1/2 inch, pressing the fold and encasing the rubber band in the fold. Sew in place.

5. Loop the other rubber band through the first to attach them to one another and then repeat step 4 with the new rubber band and the other end of the lace.

6. Trim away all threads before wearing.
