DIY Modern Succulent Wall Hangers

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 30 minutes
Age range: 12 and up with adult supervision for saw and drill

Things you’ll need:
Unfinished Basswood Square Lumber Rods
Pencil
Miter box and saw (or tool of your choice to cut dowels)
Power drill and 1/8 drill bit (optional)
Ruler
Suede Cord
Scissors
Cloth Covered Floral Wire
Succulents
Wire cutters

Things to do:
1. Using a pencil, mark the dowel to divide it into the following lengths: 8″, 6″, 4″.

2. Using a miter box and saw or the tool of your choice, cut the dowel into three sections using your marks as a cutting guide.

3. Optional: Using your drill, drill a hole into the center edge of each dowel.
Tip: If you don’t have a drill, skip to step 6.

4. Cut three lengths of suede: 18″, 16″, and 15″ long.

5. Insert a length of suede into the dowel, matching the shortest length of suede with the shortest dowel and so on. For example, the 15″ suede will be inserted through the 4″ dowel.

6. Tie a knot in the suede, then pull it so that the knot rests against the dowel.
Option 2: If you didn’t drill holes in the dowel, wrap the suede around the edge of the dowel, then knot it.

7. Repeat for each dowel. You should have three sets of hangers.

8. Choose succulents for each hanger, keeping in mind that the succulent should be light. (Using heavy succulents can cause the dowel to rotate on its side, so keep that in mind as you choose.) Place a succulent flat against the dowel, then use floral wire to wrap the succulent’s stem into place. Using wire cutters, cut the wire close to the dowel.

9. Repeat for each hanger, adding two succulents to the larger hanger if you’d like.
