DIY Lace Panel Infinity Scarf

Even if you aren’t much of sewer, this scarf is an easy make for your fall wardrobe. Light enough for warm days, it will be a great transition into the colder months. Elegant and simple it will be perfect for everyday wear as well as dressier occasions. If you are hand stitching the seams (and you easily can) be sure to stretch the jersey a little as you sew so that you have stretch in the final scarf.

Difficulty level: moderate
Time required: 30 minutes

Things you’ll need:
4 feet of jersey fabric
2 feet of lace fabric
Coordinating thread
Needle
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Cut the jersey fabric into a 4 ft by 2 foot rectangle with the stretch going down the length of the fabric.

2. Cut the lace fabric into a 2 ft by 2 ft section.

3. Trim two opposite edges of lace along the edge of the pattern. These will be the sides that overlap the jersey.

4. Sew a seam along the long side of the jersey and also the lace to make two tubes that are 1 foot wide.
5. Turn the two tubes right side out.
6. Tuck the jersey tube into one end of the lace, lining the seams up. Sew the lace down onto the jersey about 1/2 inch in from the edge of the lace.

7. Lay the new, longer tube down and make one twist in the jersey fabric.

8. Tuck the raw edge of jersey into the lace as before, this time the two seams will be on opposite sides of the tube. Sew the lace down to the jersey as before.

9. Trim all threads before wearing.

  1. Reading the instructions, I am confused as to how you cut a 4 ft piece of jersey into a 4 ft by 2 ft square? The same goes for the 2 ft piece of lace – cutting that into a 2 ft by 2 ft square.Am I missing something…My daughter absolutely loves this and has asked me to make her one for a Christmas present…I really like it also….Thanks and hope to hear from you soon….

    1. Fabric usually comes in 36, 42 or 60 inch width. So if you have a 4 foot long piece it will be too wide for the scarf and so needs to be trimmed to 2 feet wide, the same goes with the lace (it should have been rectangle, not square, sorry about that). So you will need to purchase 4 feet of jersey and 2 feet or lace and then trim the width of each to 2 feet to make the scarf. You can also adjust the length or width to whatever size suits you, but the width on both the jersey and the lace will need to be the same width with the jersey twice as long in length as the lace.
