DIY Gold Desk Accessories

I have an admission to make. I like things to be pretty. Everywhere they can be. I’m sure I’m not alone in this either, but I’m always on the hunt for ways to make even the most bland and boring every day necessities more attractive. And that includes the items on my desk. I have a hard time working at a desk that isn’t tidy and pretty, but I also need those staples of office work at hand, so I’ve been on a mission to make my desk just a little bit fancier by turning my stapler and tape dispenser into something a little more than ordinary.

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 20 minutes plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
Stapler and/or Tape Dispenser
Gold spray paint
Primer for plastic if your supplies are plastic rather than metal
Masking tape
Rubbing alcohol

Things to do:
1. Wipe down your office supplies with rubbing alcohol to remove any fingerprints, dust or debris. Allow them to cry completely.

2. Using your masking tape, mask off the working parts of your supplies (usually these are silver metal)
3. On a covered work surface, paint with primer if needed. Allow the primer to dry according to the instructions on the bottle.
4. Once the primer is dry, or if primer is not needed, paint the entire surface with gold paint in thin coats. You’ll want at least three coats, allowing each to dry before adding the next. Allow the paint to cure overnight.

5. Remove the masking tape carefully and glam up your desk!
