This feather barrette is the perfect nature-inspired hair piece to get you excited for the summer season. Create different colored feathers and barrette backings for a variety of looks.

Difficulty level: Intermediate

Things you’ll need:
Barrette clip
Felt squares (2 different colors)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Scissors
Feather template

Things to do:
1. Measure a strip of felt that is just long enough to cover and bend over each end of your barrette.
2. Glue your strip of felt into place, making sure to bend the felt over each end of your barrette to give it a more finished look.
3. Make your felt feather by folding your second piece of felt in half and cutting out your shape, using the half of your paper feather stencil as a guideline. *Make your paper feather stencil by folding a piece of paper in half and cutting out the profile of a feather. Doing this ahead of time allows you to make sure your feather is the correct shape and size before committing to it with your felt.
4. Put one strip of hot glue down the center of your feather and attach it to your barrette.
5. For a more natural looking feather, take your scissors and clip short diagonal lines along each side of your feather. Make sure to stop a little before the top of your feather and not to cut too deep towards the center of your feather.
6. Clip your feather barrette into your hair as a trendy new hair accessory.
