DIY Doily Basket

Turn a soft, simple doily into a lightweight basket that’s perfect for displaying all sorts of pretties in your house. Look for a tray or bowl that mimics the overall shape of the doily you have chosen and be sure to really soak the fabric in the stiffener to get the best results.

Things you’ll need:
Doily
Bowl or tray
Fabric Stiffener
Plastic Wrap

Things to do:
1. Cover your bowl or tray in plastic wrap, making sure the entire surface is protected.

2. Pour fabric stiffener onto the fabric and work in with your hands. Make sure it’s pretty well soaked with the liquid.
3. Drape over or into the bowl or try and smooth to shape.

4. Allow the fabric to dry completely then ease out of the mold. Allow it to dry off the mold for a few hours before using.

  1. I have used this technique on drinking glasses, picture frames and such which has worked well for me. The texture of the dolly also keeps the glasses from slipping while absorbing the liquid.

    1. Great question, Elizabeth! Over time they may wear down but they should last for a really long time. Do not wash them, as the starch will wash off. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Happy crafting!
