Create vintage inspired bottle brush tree looks by bleaching and dying your bottle brush trees with these few simple steps!

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 30+ minutes
Age range: 12 and up

Things you’ll need:
Bottle brush tree
Bleach
Water
Glass or container
Paper Towel
Dye, such as RIT or food coloring *optional

Things to do:
1. Create a bleach and water mixture in your glass or container. The amount of bleach you use will depend on how much you wish to bleach your trees. We used a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water to create the effect shown here.
2. Allow your trees to be fully submerged in your bleach combination (use larger containers to submerge more trees at once). Keep an eye on your tree and remove when you have reached your desired color. If you are wishing to dye your trees, fully bleach your trees to reach an off white/yellowish tone.

3. Once you remove your tree, rinse off in water and pat dry with your towel. Allow to dry.
4. If you are dying your trees, follow directions on your dye of choice (we used food coloring and used a water food coloring combination), and submerge your tree into your dye. Allow it to soak until your desire color is reached, then pat dry.

Tip: You can rinse your tree off after dying to lighten up a bit.

Fun suggestion: To create an ombre effect, partially submerge your tree as pictured, and move your tree up as desired once you reach your desired tones.
