Apple Block Print T-Shirt Tutorial

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: 45 minutes, plus 5 hours drying time for paint
Age range: 6 and up, with adult supervision using knife

Things you’ll need:
Apple
Kitchen knife
Foam brush
Paintbrush
Paper plate, wax paper, or another surface for paint palette
Cardboard to fit inside t-shirt
Crystal Gel Pacific Blue Scribbles 3D Fabric Paint
Iridescent Aloha Orchid Scribbles 3D Fabric Paint
Iridescent Shamrock Green Scribbles 3D Fabric Paint
White t-shirt
Leaves Stencil

Things to do:
1. Using a kitchen knife, cut the apple in half at the stem. (Resist eating one of the halves! You will need both for the project.)

2. Slip cardboard inside the t-shirt so that the paint won’t bleed through to the other side.

3. Add a dollop of Pacific Blue paint to your palette. Dip the foam brush into the paint, making sure it’s not too thick.

4. Paint the flat side of one of the apple halves with the paintbrush, covering the surface completely.

5. Press the apple onto the t-shirt firmly. Do not move the apple from side to side.

6. Lift the apple from the t-shirt.

7. Repeat steps 4-7 until you have added as many blue apples as you’d like.

8. Using the small paintbrush, go back and add a thin line at the top middle of each apple to create stems.

9. Repeat steps 3-7, this time adding Aloha Orchid to your palette and printing purple apples.

10. Using the small paintbrush, add a stem to the top middle of each apple.

11. Allow about an hour for the paint to dry – just enough that the paint won’t stick to your leaf stencil.
12. Choose a leaf from the leaf stencil. Place the leaf beside the stem of one of the apples.

13. Add Shamrock Green paint to your palette, then use the paintbrush to stencil a leaf. Don’t put too much paint on the brush, otherwise it might smudge.

14. Repeat step 14 for all the apples. We alternated the side of the apple that we stenciled the leaf for each row, but you can arrange it however you’d like.

15. Allow 4 hours for all the paint to dry, and allow 72 hours before washing the shirt as directed on the manufacturer’s instructions.
