This project is to create a Painted Wood Scarecrow

Products Needed:

  • Wooden Doll Bodies (#914534)
  • Assorted Wood Signs (#915175)
  • 3" Burlap Scarecrow Hat (#123224)
  • Natural Animal Whiskers (#26100)
  • 1/8" Wood Craft Dowels (#12018)
  • Natural Scarf (#CSN)
  • Apple Barrel White paint (#20503)
  • Apple Barrel Territorial Beige (#20558)
  • Apple Barrel Liberty Blue paint (#20563)
  • Apple Barrel Yellow paint (#20502)
  • Apple Barrel Tapestry Wine paint (#20592)
  • Black fine point felt marker
  • Glue Gun

Directions:

  • With tapestry wine, paint from neck of body, halfway down - this will be the shirt.
  • With liberty blue, paint the remainder of the body - this will be the pants. Let dry.
  • With yellow paint, paint the back and side of the head, leaving room to paint the face territorial beige. Let both colors dry.
  • Also, using the yellow, paint an upside down triangle directly under the face, you will paint over the shirt.
  • Once the above has completely dried, paint 3-4 small patches onto the shirt and pants using any color but white. Use the white to paint small stitches around the patches, around the body where the shirt and pants meet. Also paint on 2 dots for the eyes. Let dry.
  • With territorial beige paint the entire wood sign and thin lines representing the hay coming out of the top of the shirt where its not buttoned. Let dry.
  • Using the black felt marker, draw on the face, making an “X” for the nose, a stitch-smile and smaller black dots inside the white of the eyes. Also write a short phrase on the sign with the marker, then hang the sign around the scarecrows' neck.
  • Cut the 2 bunches of whiskers in half then bend them over the top of the head and secure with hot glue.
  • Next, carefully hot glue the burlap hat over the hair to make it appear to be sticking out from underneath.
  • Cut one dowel rod about 2-1/2" long and slip it between the stitches of the scarf at the ends. The scarf will be a little long, so scrunch it in the middle and hot glue it to the back of the body.
