Upcycling: Wool Bracelet Cuff from Tweed Blazor

Wool_Bracelet_Cuff
One of the things that I always keep an eye out for when I’m thrifting is good wool tweed blazers. Tweed from a fabric store is an expensive item but from a thrift shop you’ll often pay only a few dollars for the equivalent of a good yard or so of fabric. They can be turned into skirts and hats and collars and ornaments, there’s really no limit to the uses a craft person can find. But the sleeves often end up in the scrap heap because of their narrow width. This stylish and fun bracelet is made using two sleeves from a blazer and can be whipped up in about 15 minutes.

Things you’ll need:
Sleeves from a wool blazer
Sewing machine and thread
Fabric scissors
Hand sewing needle
Sew-in snaps

Things to do:
1. Cut both sleeves off about 10 inches from the end of the cuff. Split the seams and remove the lining on both. Remove all buttons

2. Measure the width of your wrist and add 1 1/2 inches. Measuring from the folded edge of the fabric, trim the fabric to this width and to a length of about 5 inches, or about 1 inch wider than the width of the bracelet you want.

3. With the fabric right sides together. Sew around three sides of the fabric, leaving the folded edges unsewn for turning. Trim the corners and turn right side out.

4. Press the seams and top stitch 1/4 inch from the seams all the way around.

5. Test the bracelet around your wrist and mark where your snap should lie in the overlap.
6. Stitch the snap in place and replace the buttons to finish the look.
