To felt, toss the sweater in a hot water wash followed by a hot tumble dry. When dry, you’ll have a smooth, dense fabric that’s ready to work with. Next, cut squares (or rectangles) from the body of the sweater and use a length of yarn in a coordinating color to sew the wrong sides together along three edges. Turn the fabric right-side out and either stuff it or slip it over an old throw pillow, and then sew the last seam together.

Blue Jeans Refrigerator Pockets: Snip the pocket and surrounding material from an old pair of blue jeans, then embellish with fabric paint, salvaged buttons, ribbons, or material scraps. Use hot glue to affix a magnetic strip to the back, and then stick to your refrigerator and use to stow coupons, pencils, measuring spoons, and other kitchen miscellany.
