Upcycle: Vintage Crate Firewood Basket

I live in a part of the world where the possibility of needing a fire roaring away every month of the year is not out of the question. Even in the summer there are nights when a toasty fire is very welcome indeed. So firewood is something that is always in our house. Always. And having a place to put that firewood, and the kindling and the paper for starting, is key. This vintage crate is the perfect solution for my needs. It’s large enough to hold enough firewood for an evening, tall enough to keep the wood in without the risk of tipping and adds a great touch to the space. A vintage crate can look great in almost any setting. From modern to country to eclectic, a solid, rustic crate looks fabulous in them all.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: Less than five minutes

Things you need:
Vintage folding crate

Be sure to start with the box in a flat spot that is within easy reach of the fireplace or woodstove but is far enough away to keep the wood and the box safe. Fill the box 3/4 full with wood on end. Use the remaining space to store smaller pieces of kindling wood or folded paper for starting the fire and you are ready for a chilly evening by the fire.
