Upcycle: Jeweled Jar

Have you ever bought a lovely candle in a pretty jar with a nice lid? When you burn the candle, don’t you hate to throw away such a lovely jar? That’s what started this inkling of an idea; a pretty jar and lid that didn’t want to go into the garbage!
The shiny nature of the lid prompted the use of jewels with this pretty jar. And we LOVE anything shiny!

Age range: 10 and up
Time to complete: 30 minutes
Difficulty level: Intermediate

Things you’ll need:
A pretty jar with lid
Multicolored, multi-faceted, flat-backed rhinestones
E6000 Adhesive
Alcohol
Toothpicks, paper towels

Things to do:
1. Clean the lid with alcohol to remove any oils.

2. Starting in the middle of the lid, lay out a variety of gems and decide on a pattern: Start in the middle, working outwards. Work with larger gems first. Don’t start gluing until you have a spark of an idea!

3. Put a drop of glue on the lid and place the gem onto the glue. Try to clean mistakes as they happen; easier to clean when wet! Use a toothpick to nudge pieces around.

4. Continue gluing, placing, and wiping until the lid is covered.

5. Allow to dry. Enjoy!
