Upcycle: CD Votive Candle Holders


CD Votives create a party-ready ambiance to any room. Make them yourself and recycle old CDs to dress up plain votive candles. This craft does require use of an oven, so make sure to be safe and always use oven mitts to remove any hot items from the oven. Have fun creating your own sparkly votive candle holders!

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Ages: 8+
Required time: 15 minutes

Things you’ll need:
2 – CDs
Oven-safe cup or can
Tealight candles
Oven mitts (for safety)
Oven

Things to do:
1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Put your CDs on top of each other with both shiny sides facing out.
3. Place your CDs on top of the can or oven-safe cup and place inside of the oven.
4. Bake for about 10 minutes or until the CDs are wavy and drooped over the sides of the can.
5. Remove the can or oven-safe cup and folded CDs from the oven and let cool.
6. Remove the CD votive from the can or oven-safe cup. *If the votive is stuck on the cup, stick it back in the oven for another minute to loosen it and remove it from the can while it is still warm.
7. Once it has cooled, place your tealight candle in your CD votive and light to admire its sparkly qualities!
