Sweet and Simple Ribbon Hair Bow

Create a sweet and simple hair bow that’s lovely for both younger and older girls. You can use different barrettes – either a French barrette or a pinch clip – depending on the child’s hair.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Time required: 15 minutes
Age range: 10+

Things you’ll need:
5/8″ or 7/8″ ribbon – a print works best when doing this for the first time
Barrettes
Pinch clips or large paper clips
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Embroidery thread or perle cotton
Needle with large eye
Scissors
Pencil or water soluble marking tool

Things to do:
1. Cut your ribbon to 22 1/2″ long. Make a mark 1 1/2″ from the left short end. Make another mark 3 1/2″ from the first mark. Start forming a Z” with the ribbon, taking the right side around to the back at the 3 1/2″ mark and continuing with the the ribbon folding as shown.

2. Create a third fold as shown, keeping the sides even.

3. Place pinch clips or paper clips at the center to hold your work in place.

4. Thread your needle and knot one end. Starting at the bottom, do a running stitch up the middle of the bow vertically, then pull to crease the center.

5. Wrap the thread around the center a couple of times and pull – you’ll see the bow taking shape.

6. Tie the thread off in the back. The bow will look like this, with long tails.

7. Trim the end of the bow to your taste – in this case they’re trimmed as Vs.

8. Fold a 4″ piece of ribbon in half the long way and knot it. Glue to the center of the bow. Glue a barrette or pinch clip to the back, and wrap the ribbon around the barrette to finish.
