Sometimes you need something a little extra on the table for a party or an event. Maybe you have a theme but can’t find matched tableware or you have more desserts than dessert trays. This project turns plan glass plates into something perfect for just about any kind of party you can dream up.

Things you’ll need:
Mod Podge
Scrapbook paper
Clear glass or plastic plates
Foam brush
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Flip your plate over and set the paper, pattern side down, onto the bottom. Cut the corners off to create a octagon roughly 1 inch larger all around than the plate.

2. Remove the paper and apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the flat bottom of the plate. Centering the paper, smooth it on, working out any bubbles as you go.

3. Allow this to set up for a moment and then cut down toward the center at each of the eight corners.
4. Working section by section, apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the glass and smooth down the paper, one flap at a time. The paper will overlap slightly to adjust to the curve of the plate.

5. Allow the glue to set up, working out any bubbles that crop up as it dries. Apply a coat or two to the paper to seal. Although these will not be washable, you should be able to wipe the glass side with a damp cloth if you need to reuse them.

  1. These are adorable and easy to make. But I have one important question. How do clean them? What with the modge podge glue on it…putting it in hot water probably isnt a good idea. I realize these are just to use as trays but they do need cleaned occasionally. These are cute, as I said, but not very practical if you cant clean them.

    1. I would recommend using Mod Podge Hard Coat on this project. Mod Podge Hard Coat is more water resistant than the other types of Mod Podge. This doesnt mean that it is water proof but just a little more durable. With the hard cpat you should be able to wipe down with a wet cloth or something like that to get your platters clean. Let me know if you have any other questions!

  2. I am having a Mad Hatter Tea Party for my Grand Daughter, Antigone, and we are going to do this on the bottom of the kids plates. They will have her name and their name on the paper so it shows on the plate. That way they can keep them after and remember her special Mad Hatter Birthday party. I Also got plate stands at the dollar store so they can set the plates up in their rooms. Thank you for the idea!!

  3. I was just wondering if you know where you bought the clear glass plates from. Do you have a special source? Thanks this is a great site you have here!

    1. Great question Leah! I dont really have any specific source for the clear plates but I would definitely recommend looking at yard sales, thrift shops or even dollar stores have them as well!
