Upcycling: Light Bulb Vase

Old fashion incandescent light bulbs are just about a thing of the past. But next time you switch one out for a fancy schmancy CFL, don’t toss it, reuse it and create a funky and eye catching vase.

Things you’ll need:
Incandescent bulb (heavy glass ones are best)
Pliers
Wood egg holder
Paint and paintbrush (optional)

Things to do:
1. Disassemble the light bulb to remove its interior parts. Use the pliers to peel back the small metal disc at the end of the bulb then gently tap the small black glass tip until it breaks. Use the pliers to pull the wires out.

2. Paint the eggcup if desired and allow it to dry before settling the bulb onto the dip to hold it steady. Fill the bulb with water and flowers.

Paper Chain Hearts

Just because Christmas is over, that doesn’t mean the paper chains have to go away till next December. These heart paper chains are a simple and sweet way to decorate for Valentines day.

Things you’ll need:
Red, pick and/or white scrapbook paper, solid or patterned, a mix is fine
Paper cutter
Stapler

Things to do:
1. Cut the paper into 1-inch wide strips.

2. Fold each strip in half, creasing well.

3. With the pattern sides together, staple just above the fold on one strip of paper.
4. Pull the two ends down to form a heart and slid another strip up against it so the fold of the new strip covers the ends of the first. Staple in place.

5. Repeat until you have a chain of hearts as long as you want.
