Loop Potholder Loom – Basic Weaving

Loop looms have been around for ages, and for good reason! It’s a great way to introduce kids to weaving, a fabulous way for little ones to make gifts for the grownups in their life and even for adults is good plain fun. While there are lots of styles and techniques you can use with a loop loom, let’s start with the basics.

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 20 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Loop Loom and hook
Loops

Things to do:
1. Begin by stretching loops across the loom on opposing pegs, choosing either a tight weave by looping every peg or a looser weave by using every other peg.

2. Weave the hook over and under each pair of loops, when you have it through, use the book end to pull a loop through. Hook the ends onto the corresponding pegs.

3. Again eave the hook in and out, this time going over the loops that were previously under, and under those that were over, creating an opposite weave. Pull the loop through and hook the ends onto the next set of pegs.

4. Repeat the previous two steps until you have covered the whole loom.
5. Starting at one corner, slip the loop off of the first peg and onto the hook. Slip the next loop onto the hook and pull the first loop over the second and off the hook. Repeat, working around the loom, until you have reached the last loop, pull the last loop through tightly and use and a hanging loop.
